About the Kirkwood Train station

History of the train station

The First railroad depot was opened in 1853 for a planned residential community. In 1893 the historic Train station was built. In 2002, Amtrak was on the verge of closing the Train station, the city of Kirkwood decided to buy the building and it continues to serve as an Amtrak station and Visitors Center.

History of Kirkwood

The Founding

Kirkwood was founded in 1853 when the Kirkwood Association purchased 240 acres of land to build a residential community alongside the route of the Pacific railroad. The name “Kirkwood” was named after James Pugh Kirkwood, engineer and surveyor for the Pacific Railroad. Today the city is nine square miles in size and has a population of around 27,540.

Kirkwoods Farmers Market was founded in 1976 by the City of Kirkwood. The Farmers Market is administered by Downtown Kirkwood Special Business District

Hours of Operation

April 3-October 1

Kirkwood Farmers’ Market is open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturdays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Sundays from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. 

Summit Produce will be closed the following dates: Easter, Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day. 

Tropical Moose is open from 12-10 p.m. daily–June 5 through September. Tropical Moose is closed on July 4th.  

October 1-October 31

Pumpkin Patch open daily 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Harvest Market open Saturdays from 8 a.m. until vendors sell out. 

November 24-December 24

Christmas Market open daily 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
